Curriculum Update: Taxes Updates for Tax Filing Year 2023
It’s that time of year! From now through January, the NGPF Curriculum team will be updating the Taxes curriculum for the upcoming tax filing year. Read on to learn more about these updates.
1. What is being updated?
- Figures for Tax Filing Year 2023: The curriculum will be updated to include the 2023 standard deduction, minimum income requirements to file a return, tax brackets, and more
- Answer Keys: Answers keys will be updated to reflect the latest figures and information for the 2023 tax filing year
- Tax Forms: Important tax forms such as the W-2, 1040, and more will be updated for the 2023 tax filing year
- Spanish Resources: All updates made to English resources will also be made in the Spanish versions of applicable resources.
- Nearpod lessons: Any updates made in Semester, Trimester, and Middle School Course lessons will also be made in their corresponding Nearpod lessons
2. What is NOT being updated?
- These updates are not a complete revamp of NGPF’s taxes resources. We are not rewriting entire lessons or activities. We are updating the existing content to reflect the latest figures and information relevant to tax filing year 2023.
- Since the Full-Year course is simultaneously undergoing a revamp that will utilize the existing Semester Course lessons and new Full-Year course lessons, the existing Full-Year course will not receive updates. When the Full-Year course revamp is complete, its Taxes unit will have all the newly updated figures.
3. How do I know if a resource has been updated before using it with my students?
Check the Last Updated date in the footer of any NGPF resource you want to use to see when it was last updated.
4. Can I use the Taxes curriculum before January 2024?
Sure! However, please note the following:
- The NGPF Curriculum team will be actively updating the resources through January, so you may see changes being made in the live documents that are accessible on the NGPF website. If you plan to use a specific resource soon, we recommend making a copy of it so that it remains unchanged for use with your students.
- If you do choose to use the curriculum before everything is updated, it will be important to note to students that the core learning objectives will likely still be relevant for the upcoming tax filing year, but some specific figures will change.
5. When can I expect the updates to be done?
The NGPF Curriculum team is aiming to have all updates done around the beginning of February 2024. Be on the lookout for an email campaign announcing that all the updates are done!
